HEERF III

Federal Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) III – Emergency Grants for Students

We know times are tough for students because of the pandemic, and the Student Financial Assistance office is here to assist you.

The American Rescue Plan (ARP) 2021, has allocated emergency financial aid grants for students called the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) III to assist students with exceptional need with educational costs and other emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus, such as tuition, food, housing, health care (including mental health care), or childcare.

 To be eligible students must:

  • Be enrolled during the current term (Fall 2021 or Spring 2022)
  • Complete a Federal HEERF III Emergency Grant application.

Students who complete the HEERF III Emergency Grant application will be reviewed within 2 weeks after the deadline has passed. Awards will be based on the student's application.

Awards will be reviewed and awarded until the funding is depleted. Due to an expected high volume of applications, we encourage students to apply prior to the deadline to be considered. The Federal HEERF III Emergency Grant is awarded on a one-time basis and is not renewable.

Due to the fluid and rapidly evolving nature of the response to the pandemic, criteria and award amounts may be adjusted overall to best meet the needs of students, and on a limited case-by-case basis as Missouri S&T seeks to assist students navigating unique hardships and demonstrating exceptional need.

HEERF III funding has been exhausted and the application is now closed.

ABOUT THE FUNDING

FAQ

We strongly recommend that students ensure that they have Direct Deposit setup. If a student is not signed up for Direct Deposit, then it could take up to two weeks to receive your emergency funds. The university works diligently to process funding as quickly as possible. Awards will be applied directly to the student’s Statement of Account. Information on setting up direct deposit can be found on the Cashier's website.

Eligible students are notified to apply for emergency grants via their S&T email account. Awards will be processed within 2 weeks of the October 10th deadline. After the application is reviewed, the student will receive a message via their S&T email account notifying them of the outcome. Award amount decisions cannot be appealed.

HEERF funds are one-time grants specific to expenses resulting from COVID-19. The funds cannot be counted as part of your gross income or for tax credits. More information is available on the IRS website.

If you or your parent/legal guardians (or spouse for an independent student) have lost your job or income as a result of COVID-19, we encourage you to reach out to our office regarding a possible Special Circumstance review for the FAFSA.
